LED Education Area - Why LED?
What’s all the fuss about LED's?
LED's are used to build energy-efficient lighting products which help protect the environment, reduce maintenance costs, and make things look much more visually pleasing than they usually would be when under traditional lighting, while also lasting much longer.
A brief comparison showing LED energy efficiency
More light for less energy and lower cost
LED lighting can save up to 85 percent of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs and up to 50 percent of electricity used by fluorescents. In turn switching to LED technology will cause your lighting bills to drop drastically, especially if you have a lot of bulbs which you use on a consistent basis - consider that 20% of the worlds electricity is used in lighting.
LED's can last a lifetime
Typically LED lighting can last between 25,000 and 50,000 hours, roughly speaking this is 20-30 years with 3 hours daily usage. Don't be deceived - while a halogen/incandescent alternative may save you a few pounds short term, you will most likely need to replace that bulb 20 times before you would need to replace an LED bulb once.
LED lights are cooler and safer to use
Not only do LED lights use alot less energy but the amount that is wasted in heat is vastly reduced in comparison to other lighting options, incandescent bulbs for example will burn you if you try to touch them while running since the energy is mostly being converted into excess heat rather than useful light.
LED's ARE the future
Millions are being spent on LED technology to streamline the aesthetic and ergonomical features it provides. The low power and weight of LED products make it perfect for new types of lighting such as strip lights, downlights, and slim floodlights. Have a smartphone? some LED products are now compatible with digital control systems for you to remotely switch on/off and adjust your lighting in revolutionary ways.
